iUnik Centella Centella Calming Gel Cream vs. Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella Asiatica Cream

After using these two centella moisturizers in rotation (and sometimes at the same time😆), I think I’m now sure about how I feel about them. But before anything else, I’d just like to say that both of them are very good lightweight moisturizers. They’d be great for oily, acne-prone skin. And because they contain centella asiatica extract, they are also recommended for those who have other skin barrier issues or those who simply want to strengthen their skin’s natural barrier. Both of them also contain niacinamide, which is also a skin-barrier-strengthening ingredient, and is brightening, too. Now let’s talk about their differences.

The first thing I noticed with these two was the position of centella asiatica EXTRACT on their ingredient lists. This is important because it’s the EXTRACT (not just the leaf water) that is the potent part of centella asiatica. The extract consists of Madecasosside (anti-inflammatory, calming, repairing, refining), Asiaticoside (for water-oil balance, helps with collagen formation), and Asiatic acid (an antioxidant, strengthens the skin barrier). In the Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella Asiatica Cream, the centella asiatica extract is SECOND on the ingredient list😍 But in the iUnik Centella Centella Calming Gel Cream, it’s only 24th on the ingredient list. The main ingredients of the iUnik cream are centella asiatica LEAF WATER and tea tree leaf water, which are also good ingredients, but of course when I buy a centella cream, I’d prefer that the centella asiatica extract is high up on the ingredient list.

As for the other ingredients, they both have other hydrating, moisturizing and “wrinkle-care” ingredients. Notable ingredients in the iUnik cream are sodium hyaluronate, arginine, and allantoin. It contains several plant extracts, too, which are supposedly beneficial. Meanwhile, the Skin 1004 seems to have more notable (and familiar) ingredients, namely glycerin, squalane, panthenol, and trehalose. Both products contain niacinamide and adenosine.

These centella creams work very similarly: they are really lightweight and they are both soothing, and moisturizing. However, one performs just a tad better than the other, IMO. I find that the Skin 1004 cream is more soothing and hydrating than the iUnik cream. It even has a slight cooling effect. They are both easily absorbed by the skin, though the iUnik one is more quickly absorbed. With the iUnik cream, there is absolutely no dewiness at all, and I know there are people who prefer this kind of finish. It’s like you didn’t apply any moisturizer. But personally, I prefer the very slightly (it’s hardly noticeable but it’s there) dewy finish of the Skin 1004 cream. It’s very light, but my skin still looks hydrated. I actually reach for the Skin 1004 cream more often than the iUnik cream😁 Needless to say, I like the Skin 1004 cream better than the iUnik cream😁

The iUnik cream was gifted to me by the brand, but it’s available on Beauty MNL for P879 (for 60mL of product). I bought the Skin 1004 cream for P880 (for 75mL of product) on Althea Korea.
