Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence Intensive [Moist]

What It Is

A hydrating, brightening and anti-aging essence to be used after toner and before other treatments, such as serums, ampoules, sheet masks, etc. It has been said that essences are the “heart of Korean skincare”, as they are the first step in the skincare routine’s “treatment stage” and are designed to improve skin at the cellular level.

Who Needs It

People who want increased hydration for their dry skin; people who need oil-control (yup, this product works for both dry and oily skin); and people with uneven or dull skin tone.

My Experience

This is one of the K-beauty products I’ve tried that really made good on its promises and lived up to my expectations. I read a lot of reviews about this essence before finally deciding to get myself one earlier this month. I was hoping to get the same results as those who were saying that this essence really improved their skin’s texture and complexion. You see, I have some acne marks that had been on the sides of my cheeks and forehead for quite a while now, and I noticed that they lightened significantly after just a few weeks’ use of this essence. They’re not yet completely gone, but I’ve only been using this essence for nearly a month now, and the results are already noticeable. My skin tone has improved and has been more radiant since I started using this essence day and night.

The consistency of this essence is very much just like water. There is no stickiness to it at all, and it feels as light as water and looks as clear as water. It has a very mild scent that’s negligible. It can be applied with a cotton pad or simply with the palm of your hands. I prefer the latter because it conserves more product.

Some say their bottle lasted them nine months to a year, but that won’t seem to be the case with mine. I’ve only been using this essence for about a month, but I’ve already consumed a quarter of a bottle 😱 At the rate I’m going, this will probably run out in around three to four months. I must be using too much, but I can’t help it. I want to make sure I’m really getting all areas covered, so I slap it on my face and neck ’til they’re wet and not just moist 😁

What Makes It So Good For Your Skin

Now let’s discuss the science behind the magic. This essence is formulated with 90% fermented yeast extract from Himalayan purple barley. The fermentation process works to increase nutrient density, thereby rendering the product’s natural ingredients more absorbable and potent. Perhaps the simplest and best explanation I found for this is what happens to cabbage when it’s turned into kimchi, and grapes into wine.

Fermentation is a natural process that turns kimchi into a super food loaded with antioxidants. It is even said that kimchi has 1000 times more lactobacillus than yogurt. Meanwhile, according to a 2002 study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, wine has greater overall antioxidant capacity (AOX) than grape juice.

As for the yeast extract, the fermentation process produces lots of amino acids, vitamins and peptides, which peak the skin’s rejuvenation process, improve collagen synthesis and help skin’s cellular renewal. It also increases hydration and skin elasticity. Fermented yeast extract also has anti-inflammatory properties, which help reduce skin redness and acne.

Another powerful ingredient found in Missha First Treatment Essence is niacinamide. Also known as vitamin B3 and nicotinic acid, niacinamide evens out skin tone, brightens up dull skin and improves the appearance of pores. It also increases the production of ceramides, an essential component in the skin’s lipid barrier, to keep the skin strong, prevent moisture loss and control any excessive oil flow.

Will I repurchase?

Absolutely! Now that I’ve experienced this essence and all its goodness, I can’t imagine not having it in my skincare routine anymore. Yup, I became dependent just like that 😭

I bought my Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence Intensive [Moist] on Althea for P1,520. But it is also available at BeautyMNL where it’s sold for P2,295, as well as at Missha Stores in the Philippines, where it’s priced at P2,700.
