At first I thought it was just another novelty K-beauty product that was meant to be an alternative to the more popular aloe vera soothing gel, but later I found that it actually has something nice to offer. Compared to my Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing Gel, this Watermelon Gel is more lightweight and is absorbed more quickly into the skin, that’s why I think it’s perfect for oily skin. It also doesn’t leave a sticky residue even if slather it on as a face mask. In terms of “cooling effect”, however, it does not quite come close to my Aloe Vera Gel. I have to refrigerate this Watermelon Gel before I actually experience that “cooling effect” and the coolness doesn’t even last that long. My Aloe Vera Gel, in contrast, feels cool on the skin for a long time even if I’ve been keeping the product at room temperature. Nevertheless, I think this Watermelon Gel does its job well at hydrating and softening my skin. And I love how it actually smells like fresh watermelon, and not like artificially-flavored watermelon candy. The only downside, perhaps, is that alcohol is its number three ingredient. Personally, though, that doesn’t bother me because even Nature Republic’s Aloe Vera Soothing Gel, which I love so much, also has alcohol as its second top ingredient, but it works so well and doesn’t break me out. This is probably because the aloe vera or watermelon extract makes up at least 90% of the product that it’s able to cancel out the supposed drying effect of the alcohol content. But that’s just my theory 😜

Will I repurchase?
I’ll probably just enjoy it while it lasts, but for now I don’t feel like it’s a must-have. But then again, I do change my mind about products after using them a few more times, so we’ll see.
